On the International Day of Peace, the Women’s League of Burma (WLB) reaffirms that there can be no peace in Burma/Myanmar without justice. Survivors must be heard, their rights restored, and perpetrators held accountable. Peace without justice is not freedom—it is the silence of fear.
From September 19–21, 2025, WLB and the CEDAW Alliance Burma organized the Women’s Forum for Peace, bringing together over two hundred participants from diverse backgrounds. The forum highlighted the urgent challenges women face, called for the full implementation of the Women, Peace, and Security (WPS) Strategy, and demanded women’s meaningful participation in building a future federal democratic union.
Across keynote speeches, panel discussions, and dialogues, participants exposed the silence around WPS implementation in Burma, learned from the experiences of women activists from Afghanistan, Syria, Sudan, and Indonesia, and pushed for stronger commitments to advance women’s rights and peace.
WLB stresses that sustainable peace requires truth, justice, and accountability for survivors of human rights violations, including conflict-related sexual violence. Without accountability, impunity thrives and the cycle of violence continues. The women of Burma/Myanmar stand united in demanding recognition, freedom, and equality for a just and peaceful future.
