On 17 February 1995, a group of women who were actively involved in 8888 uprising, together with other like-minded women who fled to India for various political reasons, founded Women’s Rights and Welfare Association of Burma (WRWAB). Toward the end of 2012, some members of WRWAB relocated back to Myanmar and continued to implement activities in their respective areas. In early 2016, three WRWAB members regrouped in Kale, Sagaing and recruited new members. At WRWAB’s 15th anniversary and annual conference on 17 February 2017, it was decided that Women Rights and Welfare Association of Burma (WRWAB) would be renamed as Women for Justice (WJ).
